What are your go-to healthy snacks?

  • shuffordI try to prioritize some protein and minimize items with inflammatory oils in snacks for both me and my toddler. Some go-tos: - Greek yogurt with mixed nuts and fruit. - string cheese or babybel, sometimes with a few crackers. We like simple mills. - mini beef sticks - hummus with veggies - protein bars. We like perfect bars and Laird. - protein balls. I like to make a batch of these to have on hand. Only a few ingredients and very easy to make: peanut butter, spouted oats, honey or other natural sweetener, protein powder (my latest fave is a brand called FlavCity - amazing ingredients and taste), and choc chips (optional) - popcorn. We like lesser evil.

Fruits, popcorn (olive oil), hummus and veggies, cereal+milk, yogurt+granola, and variety of nuts. For the kids all of the above + string cheese, hazelnut crepes (sweet but has protein), PB&J (both PB and J with no added sugar), raisins.

    • perlaWill need to check out the hazelnut crepes
    • moniHere is the Peanut Butter that we love (also amazing for babies that need to taste all nuts regularly to avoid allergies) https://iherb.co/ri3FMWQV\ Here is the Jam that has no added sugar and also has quinoa for extra protein punch https://a.co/d/1OpZ3fh\ Here is the “healthier than Nutella” hazelnut chocolate spread https://a.co/d/8Z1HqRe but you can also do their non-chocolate versions

Lots of fruit - we try to go to the farmer’s market regularly so the kids can try samples and pick out fruit and just be involved in the whole process.

Creminelli makes little snack trays with cheese, crackers, and salami - we love those and always have a stack in the fridge.

Chomps mini beef sticks: I order them directly from Chomps - the mini size is hard to find in stores.

Trader Joe’s has a bunch of freeze dried fruit - we like the strawberries best, but the others are pretty good too.

And then all the usual stuff - granola bars, popcorn, string cheese, triscuits, goldfish, Annie’s bunny grahams (slowly sliding down the healthy ladder here but oh well…)

Yogurt and granola. We love Target’s greek non-fat vanilla yogurt. The protein to sugar ratio is really great. My kids love the french vanilla almond granola from good and gather (target) with it. We just tried the dark chocolate cashew butter granola from good and gather (target) and it’s great too. We go through a ton of yogurt and granola!

Rollup Blender pancakes: https://www.melskitchencafe.com/rollup-blender-pancakes/. I love, love this recipe because it’s pancakes but packed with protein. My kids ask for these all the time. We got through a lot of eggs and cottage cheese!

Easy Freezer Burritos: https://www.melskitchencafe.com/easy-freezer-breakfast-burritos/. I make this with taco tortillas instead of burrito ones so they are a little smaller. I freeze a ton and they can just pop them in a microwave for a quick snack.

Applesauce Oat Muffins: https://www.melskitchencafe.com/healthy-oats-and-applesauce-muffins/. I make a ton of these and then freeze a bunch. 30 seconds in the microwave, warm muffin.

Hulk Muffins: https://www.melskitchencafe.com/healthy-green-hulk-muffins/. I have recommended these to say many moms! It’s packed with spinach. The key is to use SUPER ripe bananas. And then they just taste like bananas muffins. Again, make a ton, freeze them, microwave for 30 seconds. Easy snack.

Plus all the usual stuff: string cheese, popcorn, granola bars, crackers and cheese, goldfish.
