I’ve done a few. Current best is turning a changing table into nesting boxes for my chickens. Entertainment center-> kids play kitchen, ikea cubby shelves -> dollhouse, under a loft bed-> craft nook (for bed owner child).
- mamabird—That’s awesome! I’ve done an entertainment center into a play kitchen before. My son was super into cooking when he was little 🥹.

My husband and I are currently refinishing and tuning up a vintage piano we got for free on facebook marketplace. We got really ambitious on a date night and I’m trying to gather the ambition to get back to it. 😂 I’m not repurposing it into something else, but I am giving it a whole new look and learning a TON about how the mechanisms work. Luckily my husband knows how to tune it himself, but on the whole we are learning a lot and doing something we never thought we would have attempted—we have flipped and re-purposed quite a few pieces, but nothing this intense.
- mamabird—I re-did my piano like 8 years ago. It’s a lot of work! I’m thinking I need to redo mine again though.
- courtcarp—We got this one as a piano to practice on before we refinish our baby grand. Holy cow! I underestimated the number of hours I would be putting into that thing! We have been taking off 5 layers of paint and varnish just to get to the wood and that itself has been a task. 🤣
- mamabird—Yah, a friend of mine told me to expect 50-60 hours of work, just to restain mine with gel stain. 😅 Now I want to strip it and paint it (the gel stain will bleed through paint. Found that out on my kitchen cabinets 🤦♀️). And, I assume that’ll take even longer.

I’ve done a LOT of projects. I think my favorite is my kitchen cabinets. I took the space above them and built boxes to fit to the ceiling, and added a light above the sink and in the cabinet boxes. And the crown moulding turned out really pretty on these. 😍
I wish I could send a picture!
My second favorite is when I used kitchen cabinets drawers to build a bed on top of, and it turned out beautifully!
There are a lot of really cool Ikea hacks on youtube! Kallax shelves in particular can be customized and stacked for tons of different purposes and they’re very easy to do!
