What are your favorite experience gifts for kids?

Every year at Christmas, I struggle, because I just don’t want to fill my house with more random stuff. I’m not opposed to some great toys, but we already have a lot! So this year I want to gift my kids experiences instead. So I’m looking for ideas. As a reference, my kids are 8, 8, and 5.

We do music events (SF symphony often plays the music to a kids classic movie or has kids specials), cirque du soleil (they have kids discounts on early showings), big bounce America was a humongous hit and honestly we loved it as parents too (it tours around CA hitting different cities), theater plays, and I’m thinking as they get older we will try to bring them to our own musical preferences 1-1 (I love the symphony, Ale loves Jazz and maybe some festivals). Also we are waiting for all three to be old enough to enjoy the big ones like Disney or Legoland San Diego.

The opportunity to try a new extra curricular activity. My girls begged for dance lessons and we gifted them a semester of ballet. We gave them a pair of ballet slippers for Christmas, but the lessons were the real gift.

    • rachelThat’s a brilliant idea!
  • We’re going to give one of our kiddos a day of rock climbing at a nearby gym.

    • rachelMy son loves rock climbing. I’m going to that for Christmas this year for him. Thanks!!
